The countdown to the biggest prize in greyhound racing begins tonight (Thurday).

£100,000 is up for grabs for the winner of the Blue Square Derby, which reaches its climax on Saturday, May 31.

Tonight sees the first qualifying heat for the most coveted crown in greyhound racing.

During14 races of pure adrenalin, 84 of the top dogs will be whittled down to just one winner.

With two of the fastest dogs the sport has ever seen tipped to be going head to head for the title, this year's event promises to be a nail-biting contest.

The night will be dripping with excitement and anticipation as the hounds hurtle round the track racing at speeds of up to 40mph.

And it's a fantastic social occasion too - you don't need to be a sports fiend or a racing pro to enjoy the buzz and atmosphere, great food and drink.

A quintessentially British event, greyhound racing attracts millions of fans to 29 licensed stadia around the country and is the third biggest spectator sport in the country.
