Herne Hill Harriers’ Brian Wilder warmed up for next month’s Toronto Waterside Marathon by claiming the Surrey 10,000m title at Tooting Bec on Saturday.
Wilder clocked 31 minutes, 35.1 seconds to finish almost two minutes clear of from Belgrave’s Matt Matthews (33:33.4), with Herne Hill’s Ben Paviour third (33:42.6).
The race, in Herne Hill’s final open track and field meeting of the season, was the first time Wilder had completed 25 laps on the track.
The fastest 100m time was 11.11, posted by Shaftesbury Barnet’s Nengi Ossain in the opening race, finishing just ahead of Herne Hill’s Emanuel Adeyemi (11.18).
Herne Hill’s Byron Robinson was the fastest 200m runner (22.14).
Herne Hill’s Samuel Adeyemi clocked a personal best 48.90 in winning the 400m, ahead of clubmate Dave Peters (49.43) and Belgrave’s Matt Threadgold (49.50).
Surrey U13 cross country champion Merhawi Yemane cleared a personal best of 2.10m in winning the U15 pole vault.
Clubmate John Tayleur managed a personal best of 2.50m to win the U17 event.
Apart from Belgrave’s Peter Mayfield (3.40m), who won the senior men’s event, and Kingston & Polytechnic’s Caitlin Dimbleby, who managed a personal best 2m in the girls’ U13 contest, Herne Hill dominated the pole vault, with Jennifer Honeyball (3.20m) taking the senior women’s event and Tamsin Cornelius the U15 girls’ contest.
Belgrave’s David Wellstead (13.27m) won the triple jump.
