Julian Speroni has urged Crystal Palace to forget about their disastrous fortnight and concentrate simply on getting their promotion push back on track against Barnsley this Saturday.

The Eagles slumped to defeats against Birmingham and Blackpool over the Easter weekend to follow on from their disappointing derby loss to Brighton two weeks ago.

The sudden loss of form at a crucial time of the season has caused dissension among some Palace fans despite the Eagles' lofty fourth position in the league.

And Speroni, the only survivor from Palace's last Premier League campaign in 2004-2005, wants bad thoughts banished by the time kick-off comes around on Saturday.

"Of course, when you are losing games it's not a happy time," he said.

"But the thing is how you react to these things. It is not just about the way you lose, it's about the way you react to losing.

"We cannot do anything about what has happened, what we need to be doing is looking forward and concentrating on the next game.

"I don't think you can put a finger on anything that has gone wrong. It's football and sometimes things do not go the way you want them to go.

"But you need to forget about everything else and focus on each game as it comes.

"What's happened is behind us and we have to figure out what we have to do for Saturday and just relax and play, the quality of the team is the same."

The Eagles are locked in a battle for automatic promotion with Cardiff, Watford and Hull while facing challenges from Nottingham Forest, Brighton and Leicester for the play-offs.

With Palace fans everywhere frantically checking run-ins and score predictors, Speroni's sole focus is on what Crystal Palace do and nobody else.

"We do look around and see what other teams are doing, that's normal, every player does that," he said.

"But we shouldn't be worrying too much about that as those are things we cannot control.

"We have to worry about the things we can control which is what we do in our game and then, hopefully, all the other results go our way."

In between all the talk of bad runs, Speroni made his 300th Palace appearance in the 4-0 defeat to Birmingham on Friday after nine years at the club.

"It's a great achievement and I am pleased to have reached it," he said.

"I didn't know though until I got to the game and when someone told me, I couldn't believe it. It seems like only a week ago I made my 250th."
