Carshalton cops attacked by drunk woman after footie fight

Police had to chase a gaggle of drunken women through several Carshalton back gardens after reports of a disturbance following the England versus Slovenia World Cup match.

Catrina Jordan, 19, of Batley Close, Mitcham, Andrea Smart, 23, of Somerset Close, Sutton, and Charlie Chesney, 22, of Linton Close, Mitcham, were arrested after an alcohol-fuelled verbal and physical attack on neighbours and police officers on June 23.

On Monday (July 5), Sutton Magistrates’ Court heard police were called to Peterborough Road, Carshalton, at around 9pm after neighbours complained of drunken behaviour at a particular address.

Witnesses said an argument and fighting had erupted after “something was said” between the two neighbouring groups and some of the accused climbed into a neighbours garden.

Two officers, PC Tom Gilmore and PC Alice Langston, were flagged down by residents as they arrived and were led to a back garden which backs on to two other roads, Budge Lane and Linton Close.

The officers saw a group of women sitting in one of the back gardens and scaled a wall to speak with them. But the women, who were all drunk, scattered upon seeing the approaching officers who gave chase.

Once arrested and restrained, Miss Jordan and Miss Smart hurled a “torrent of abuse and gesticulation” at neighbours and officers before eventually being arrested and held in overnight in custody.

Both defendants pleaded guilty to charges of threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour The third woman, Charlie Chesney, was eventually stopped in nearby Budge Lane after fleeing the scene but the 22-year-old then assaulted both PC Gilmore and PC Langston as they tried to arrest her.

Alan Ambridge, representing the three women, said: “They wish they hadn’t got involved and recognise the negative effect that alcohol is having on their lives.”

Miss Smart was handed a 6-month conditional discharge while Miss Jordan was ordered to wear an electronic tag for the next three months and must remain at her house every night between 7pm and 7am.

The court also heard Miss Jordan’s offence breached a good behaviour order from a previous court case.

Miss Chesney was given unconditional bail and asked to return to court on July 12 where she will be sentenced for her attack on the two police officers.

A 35-year-old man was warned for possession of cannabis while two other women were arrested but not charged.

Ahhh, the lovely English roses. What are wrong with women today? And these are the people who raise the next generation of alcoholics. Pity. Just so ladylike.

I agree, the avengers, girls these days are just so common, walking around with their bellies showing, swearing, drinking etc, Im all for women's lib, but a bit of femininity would be nice, these girls ARE growing up thinking getting drunk all the time is normal, and they WILL pass that to their children who will grow up thinking anti-social behaviour is their "right"

Well done to the neighbours for taking a stand and to the Police for making some arrests. Very chavy behaviour.

Absolutely brilliant story. I just hope the "young lady" who decided to comment on this post isn't going to be teaching the future off spring any spelling, punctuation or grammar.

Well done to the neighbours for reporting these stupid women. Not all women are like this just to reassure you, this is just chavvy behaviour. Unfortunately, barbie what goes around comes around, so they will most probably raise the next genaration of alcoholics and chavs. It makes me sad what the worlds coming too.
