Doswell's Easter points hunt at Sutton

Paul Doswell wants Sutton United to build-up play-off momentum over Easter – and knock Dover Athletic out of contention while they are at it.

United, fourth in the Blue Square Premier, currently have a nine-point cushion over sixth-placed Dover, who they travel to on Easter Monday after facing relegation-threatened Bromley on Saturday.

And Doswell wants three points from both to secure their place in the end of season play-offs.

“Bromley have gone and bought four or five very good players in, so they are a different team than they were a month ago,” he said.

“They are fighting for their lives still so that will be a difficult game on Saturday.

“Then we face Dover on Monday, which is the crunch game of the season for us because if we can get a result at Dover it probably puts them out the picture.

“They are two huge games for us because if we win both games we will be there in the play-offs. It is important to get momentum that’s for sure.

“We had eight or nine games in March and that can affect the players.

“But when you get into April, you hope you can get into a winning run.

“We have done fantastically well and the lads have done the club proud this year and whatever happens we have had a terrific season.”

Sutton drew 0-0 at Hampton and Richmond on Saturday to make it three games without a win.

The point was also tempered by Simon Downer’s late red card for a reckless challenge that means he will miss the next three games. “It was a disappointing tackle from Simon,” said Doswell.

“He will miss three games which you don’t need at the end of the season.”
