Sutton United have decided not to roll the dice on striker Alex Wall because his injury risk was too high.

Boss Paul Doswell took the 25-year-old Bromley man on for pre-season last month, with with an agreement that he would make a decision about a contract by the end of July.

A series of knee injuries has meant that Wall, who has played for Luton Town, has been a bit-part player since 2013 making just 63 appearances at four different clubs.

It leaves Doswell – who has also loaned striker Tommy Wright to Salisbury for the season – with a strike-force of Dan Fitchett, Bradley Hudson-Odoi, Craig Dundas Ross Stearn and Roarie Deacon, while Craig McAllister is on the sidelines with a thigh niggle.

Doswell said: “Alex has gone back to Bromley. We had to make a decision by the end of July and we had to commit to a contract and we felt it was too big a risk with his injury.

“At the moment I have not got a replacement in mind necessarily – which is why Dundas got 45 minutes against Ks.

“We have been chasing one player, whether we’ll get him we don’t know.

"I spoke to him on Tuesday, and he has a double the money offer from someone else but it is a long way from where he lives - so I am waiting on that.”

United are next in action on Saturday when Crystal Palace U21s visit Gander Green Lane.
