Sutton United captain Jamie Collins will not settle for the play offs.

United welcome Eastbourne Borough to Gander Green Lane on Saturday sitting third in the National League South table, six points behind Ebbsfleet, but with three games in hand.

The Easter weekend action revealed two sides to United’s promotion make-up, starting with a 2-0 win at play-off contenders Truro City thanks to goals from Ross Stearn and Tom Bolarinwa.

On Monday, United found themselves 2-0 down at home to Whitehawk, but they showed their fighting spirit to salvage a point through goals from Bedsente Gomis and Dan Fitchett.

A Sutton United Front: Easter weekend shows we have the qualities needed to win the title

It could have been even better, but Collins saw a free-kick pushed on to the post.

The skipper said: “The play-offs are a secondary thought right now, we’ve got games in hand to go top. We are confident with this squad we can win the league.

“The Truro result was massive. To win and travel nearly 10 hours on a train as well, couldn’t ask for much more from the boys.”

The 31-year-old added: “Then to comeback from two nil down (against Whitehawk) was a fantastic effort.”

Collins made his return to the starting line-up on Monday, after a hamstring injury sustained against Bognor Regis Town in the FA Trophy replay forced him to miss 11 games. The centre-back said: “It was good to be back with the boys, but it was a bit disappointing not to win the game.

“Now this weekend is a must win game, they all are. It’s an old cliché, but we have seven cup finals. Win those and we win the league.”
