York Road is always a tough place to go, and Hayes are always a tough team to beat, so I’m delighted with the result on Saturday.

The early goal was crucial and set the team on the way to picking up all three points – and what a goal it was as well.

The run, cross and finish of the move were all absolutely perfect.

However, we were by no means perfect, especially defending set pieces against a physically strong Hayes side, but it was enough to win and move up to fourth in the table for the time being.

Impressively the victory on Saturday was the fourth league win in a row for Sutton, a run which has seen them concede just one goal and score 11.

The signs are positive, that’s for sure.

However, Maidenhead next week will be a much tougher test than Hayes.

They sit seventh in the league, five points behind Sutton, but with three games in hand due to their FA Cup exploits.

Sutton United: Paul Doswell happy to replay FA Trophy clash with rule-breakers Concord Rangers

It may still be too early to call, but this could be a vital game in the battle for the play-offs.

Looking further ahead, the second chance we have been awarded in the Trophy provides a great opportunity for the club financially as well as reigniting Wembley dreams.

Another game against Concord Rangers is frustrating, especially as you would expect playing an ineligible player to warrant expulsion from the competition altogether, but any opportunity like this must be seized upon and with a strong performance on the night taken advantage of.
