Old Meadonians, winners of the competition three times in the past 11 years, made an early exit from the London Old Boys’ Senior Cup after a 2-1 defeat at Old Westminster on Saturday.
Meads went in front in the 30th minute when Ed Glover scored from the spot, but five minutes later there was controversy as Westminster got a penalty of their own.
Simon Greening, who had already made a one-on-one save, made a superb diving save but was deemed to have come off his line and the home side scored from the retake.
Westminster took the lead on the hour when they were gifted a free header after Meads failed to deal with a free kick.
Although Meads lost midfielder Peter Eguae and full-back Dwayne Rhone with accidental facial cuts, they battled hard for an equaliser with Westminster relying on a fine goalkeeping performance to preserve their advantage.
Old Meadonians: S. Greening, Graham, Palmer, Thompson, Rhone, (Pointer), Thomkins, Costello, Gerrish, Eguae, (Jacobs), Glover, Hawkins.
