Terrors fighting fit

Tooting & Mitcham boss Billy Smith has revealed his side are already fighting fit, merely days into their pre-season programme.

The Terrors are preparing for life in the Ryman Premier, and Smith had planned a rigorous schedule to get his charges in top shape.

But the Tooting supremo admitted he had been taken by surprise.

Smith said: "Training went very well last week and the players were looking fit.

"When I was playing once the season finished you let yourself go a bit.

"The boys nowadays all go to the gym and they really look after themselves.

"I was surprised but very pleased about it."

Smith also sang the praises of striker Dave Stevens, who switched to the Terrors from Leatherhead in the off-season.

And the Tooting boss is expecting big things from his new hitman.

He added: "Dave has done really well in training.

"He has lost a lot of weight and is looking in good shape.

"He wanted to come down here and he is showing that.

"We just need to get him fit as if he is fit he is a very dangerous player.

"He gives us competition for places up front which is really what we are looking for."
