Results may not have gone Kenny Brown’s way since starting his reign as Tooting & Mitcham manager, but he is not panicking about relegation just yet.

The Terrors followed up their first win under Brown against Carshalton Athletic on Boxing Day with two defeats over the new year programme, losing 4-1 at home to Leatherhead on Saturday and 2-1 at Kingstonian on Monday.

The defeats left them third-bottom of the Ryman Premier League and four points from safety, with a match against league leaders Billericay Town to come at Imperial Fields on Saturday.

But Brown, who has made a number of changes to the squad in his three weeks in charge, is not pressing the panic button and believes the Terrors have enough time to climb out of the drop zone.

“There is no magic wand,” he said.

“It is a case of working hard and there are still a lot of points to play for, it is not like we are going into the final five or six games in this position.

“We know any team can beat any team in this league – we just have to get our consistency right week in week out.

“If we know what side we are going to put out then we will get results.

“We are competitive at the minute and I have faith in the squad.

“There will be other changes in and out but not wholesale ones and once we get our best side we will be fine.”

The Terrors were unlucky to fall to a late defeat to Kingstonian on Monday after Charlie Stimson’s equaliser, but were poor against fellow strugglers Leatherhead 48 hours earlier when Stimson had given them an early lead.

“I think we went into the Leatherhead game over confident and we had some defenders who were not at the races,” added Brown.

“Three of the four goals we conceded were avoidable and if you do that you are going to get punished at this level.

“We have to cut the errors out before we can start building anything.

“Some of the players thought we had turned a corner after the Carshalton win but Tooting & Mitcham are down the bottom for a reason.

“I haven’t seen a defence as a solid block play so poorly before, especially after taking the early lead.

“You know as a player when you have played well and when you haven’t and so it was pleasing those same players went out against Kingstonian and made a -difference.

“We were unfortunate not to get at least a point.”
