Billy's not Dunn good at Tooting & Mitcham

Billy Dunn could already be on his way out of Tooting & Mitcham after being left out of the Terrors’ squad for their 4-2 win over Leatherhead on Tuesday night.

The former Sutton United striker joined in the summer and started the opening day 1-0 defeat to East Thurrock United on Saturday but did not feature against the Tanners.

Manager Mark Beard added forwards Freedom Piggott and Kiernan Hughes-Mason, the latter on loan from Millwall, this week, giving him five forwards in total, with Dunn the man to miss out on the squad on Tuesday.

“I had a chat with Billy and he has done well pre-season,” said Beard.

“But I have five strikers including him and I just said he didn’t work hard enough against East Thurrock on Saturday for me.

“The players I brought in on Tuesday night did a good job and I can’t have five strikers in a squad, I need some defensive cover too.”

Captain Jamie Byatt inspired the Terrors on Tuesday night, scoring twice, once from the penalty spot, with substitute Fola Onijube and Jordan Wilson also finding the net.

All of Tooting’s goals came in the second half against a Leatherhead side who were reduced to 10 men when Mark Simmons was sent off for the tackle that led to the penalty when they were winning 1-0.

“It was nice to get a win,” said Beard, whose side lost to Thurrock after Kayan Kalipha’s attempted cross looped over Simon Lehkyj and into the net.

“I changed the formation at half-time as the first half wasn’t great.

“We looked solid at the back playing the wing back formation with three centre backs but it wasn’t giving us much attacking options so we went to 4-3-3.

“We had to take some gambles and it paid off.

“We looked really strong and I have a lot more strength in depth than I used to.

“Last season, if I wanted to change the game, then I would have had to bring on a youngster but not this season.

“I brought on Fola. who is 6ft 6in, to cause them some problems and he did just that.”

The Terrors go to Concord Rangers this Saturday and Beard is unsure yet whether he will revert back to 3-5-2 or stick with 4-3-3.

“We will have to look at it this week,” he said.

“We look solid in 3-5-2 and have only conceded a fluke and a set-piece but we need to do more going forward.

“It depends a little on their formation as well.

“Leatherhead were playing 4-3-3 and we were much better when we matched them.”

Last season’s player-of-the-season, goalkeeper Jamie Butler, has joined the Terrors’ Ryman Premier rivals Met Police having failed to land a deal higher up the league pyramid.
