Sutton United have called on fans to back proposals to redevelop their Gander Green Lane home to the tune of £250 a head.

Season ticket holders and prospective season ticket holders will receive a 10 per cent discount on the cost of renewing tickets for the next ten seasons in exchange for the three figure cash donation.

The club is hoping to redevelop the park side of the stadium, which would allow the re-introduction of football pitches into the Collingwood Recreation Ground.

The project would aslo see the parkside terracing moved closer to the touchline and would include new covered accommodation, toilets, snack bars and a club shop.

Phase two of the proposals woould see the arrival of covered terracing at the Collingwood Road end of the ground and the opportunity to provide additional sports and community facilities behind it.

To get the project off the ground United must raise 10 per cent of the estimated cost - of which the Supports' Trust has already raised a quarter of the cash - and it is hoped the discounted season-ticket scheme can bridge the gap.

"These ground improvements are an intrinsic part of our fully developed Football Development Plan and would provide us with a range of facilities and a stadium of which we could all be very proud, thereby enabling our on-pitch ambitions to be given the very best chance to succeed," said company secretary Dave Farebrother.

"We have had some very positive discussions so far with London Borough of Sutton, the county Football Association and various funding bodies and have now reached the stage where we need to submit a definite proposal.

"Architects have already produced some detailed drawings and we also have cost consultants on board to help us deliver value for money.

"In order to submit our proposals for funding we need to commit to raising some initial capital, around 10% of the estimated costs.

"Our Supporters’ Trust has already raised around a quarter of this, or 2.5% of the total, so now we need to raise the balance.

"We know the general economic situation is not the best it has been, but we hope you will give serious consideration to the scheme as the raising of these initial funds is crucial if we are to successfully implement this ground development initiative."

Sutton United, currently sitting in the Blue Square South play-off places, were held 0-0 at Welling United on Saturday
