Swans' Andrews in limbo over Tanners future
Walton & Hersham striker Greg Andrews fears he may return to Leatherhead too late – if at all – to save them from the Ryman Premier League drop.
The former Fetcham Grove favourite is currently on loan at the Swans where he smashed in four goals on Saturday as boss Chuck Martini’s men won 5-3 at Crawley Down, while the Tanners were held 0-0 at Margate.
Andrews has scored seven goals in five games for the Ryman Division One South strugglers since switching to Stompond Lane.
He signed a new loan deal last month keeping him at Walton until March 25, but crucially it doesn’t have a call-back clause meaning even if boss Richard Brady did want his services, he could not have them.
And Andrews has admitted the next time he plays for Leatherhead, who are entrenched in the Premier League’s bottom four, could be in the same division he is currently gracing.
“Leatherhead are in a bad situation and it looks like they need to win every game to stay up now,” he said ahead of Walton’s 0-0 draw at Dulwich Hamlet on Tuesday.
“I haven’t spoken to Richard in months, so don’t know if he wants me or not.
“All I know is, that because there was a week long break between my first loan at Walton and the current deal, there is no callback so I can’t go back even if he wanted me.
“I can go back on the 25th but it could be too late.
“I’m still a Leatherhead player, but my contract is up at the end of the season. All I can do is hope things keep going well and see what happens.”
And Andrews is hoping his form can see the Swans take flight up the table.
“This team is better than it has shown in terms of results. Hopefully, I can keep scoring and we can finish the season strongly,” he added.
l Walton Casuals go to Whitstable Town this weekend having stopped a run of four straight Ryman Division One South defeats with a 0-0 draw at home to Faversham Town on Saturday.
