Croydon Athletic will request a personal hearing after being charged for 24 breaches of The Football Association's official rules and regulations.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the club states they were contacted by the FA a few days earlier and is considering the documentation laid against them.

The breaches, under Rule E1 (b), are said to have occured during the 2009-10 season.

The club could be expelled from the Football Association should they be found guilty of charges which could cover issues such as illegal betting, discrimination or giving or accepting payment to influence a match.

During the 2009-10 season the football club was owned by Mazhar Majeed, convicted of two charges of corruption during the cricket spot fixing scandal earlier this month.

Majeed, who was arrested in August 2010, was found to have offered money to three members of the Pakistan Cricket Team to deliberately bowl no-balls during a test match against England at Lords.

A statement from the club says: "Following an investigation the Football Association have laid a number of charges against Croydon Athletic Football Club in respect of breaches of regulations in 2009/10 season.

"The Club were informed of the details some days ago and are still considering the documentation.

"We are exercising our right to have a personal hearing and will continue to cooperate fully with the Football Association throughout this process.

"Until the matter has been concluded we will not make any further comment."
