Mark Harper wants Hampton & Richmond’s Blue Square South future secure before the final game of the season – so his heart does not have to go through any more trauma.

The Beavers moved out of the drop zone on Saturday as they drew 0-0 with Sutton United at the Beveree before seeing their seven-match unbeaten run ended by Boreham Wood’s last minute winner in a 2-1 defeat on Monday.

They remain out of the bottom three on goal difference and Harper, who takes his side to out-of-form Farnborough tomorrow, would like to hit the magic 44 point mark before they go to Thurrock on April 28.

“I want to relax and I don’t particularly want to be getting to the last game of the season having to battle our way out of it against Thurrock,” he said.

“Monday’s game against Boreham Wood wasn’t good for the heart so I’m not going to be able to stand it if it goes to the last game.

“Hopefully, we will be all singing and all dancing come then.

“I am really confident going into Saturday’s game as Farnborough are a side that are struggling for form and are a little inconsistent in what they do.

“But if we lose it is not the be all and end all as we still have the game in hand and, ideally, I am looking get 44 points as quick as I can.”

The Beavers were not dancing on Monday after a 91st minute goal from Boreham’s Mauro Vilhete, his second of the game, denied Harper’s men a deserved point. James Simmonds had earlier put Hampton ahead from the penalty spot and Harper admitted it was a bitter pill for his side to swallow.

“When you have a young side like we have there were a lot of disappointed players in the changing room,” he said.

“To give away the goal we did at the death it really does hurt – not just me and the supporters but the players as well.

“What they do need to realise is they did enough to win that game apart from two minutes of switching off. “Because we played so well and then had the sucker punch of losing at the death it does hurt that little bit more but we have to take the positives.”

The Beavers, who face Wealdstone in the Middlesex Senior Cup final on Monday, could be without Mat Lovett and Angus Martin for some time after the two were badly injured in a reserve fixture on Wednesday.

Lovett suffered a break in both tibia and fibula bones in his right leg and is awaiting an operation, while Martin has suspected knee ligament damage.
