Kingstonian boss Alan Dowson has not given up hope of reaching the Ryman Premier Division play-offs, but has admitted his men have a mountain to climb.

Boss Alan Dowson’s men put in a dominant display from start to finish as they humbled play-off rivals Canvey Island 2-0 on Saturday through goals from Bobby Traynor and Ian Gayle.

But a 3-2 defeat to Lowestoft Town on Tuesday night – despite goals from Traynor and Saheed Sankoh getting their side level after being 2-0 down – has left Ks five points adrift of the top-five with only six games to go.

Dowson’s men, who have lost only three times in their past 17 league and cup outings, host title-chasing Billericay Town on Saturday and the manager conceded time is running out.

“It is going to be hard now but we have got six games to go and we’ll give it a go,” he said.

“You cannot question our character because we have been on an unbelievable run and we’ve just to try and keep it going.

“Realistically, we have to win all our games, which is next to impossible, but in many ways that makes life easy. We can no longer say a draw is a good result.

“Billericay are a good side and you can only look forward to the pressure of a game like this.”

Talismanic frontman Traynor now has four goals in four games after a barren run of only two goals in three months.

Although he could have had more last weekend, assistant boss Mark Hams reckoned he was back to his best.

“It is excellent to be creating chances. Bobby is much sharper now, but we’ve got to put those chances away,” added Hams.

“He’s still the best striker in this division.

“If we keep being professional we might just give our supporters something to look forward to.”
