EAGLES skipper Mile Jedinak is confident improvements are being made and results will come, despite a 2-0 defeat at Southampton on Saturday.

The big Sydneysider said: “I thought we did reasonably well. We grew into the game and we stuck to the game plan.

“It was going OK. Two goals so quickly after each other, even though there was a lot of time, it was difficult after that.

“We did try and persevere but we couldn't find that breakthrough.

“We didn't give up by any means which was very encouraging but it is never nice after a loss.”

Before Southampton stunned with two goals early in the second half, Palace went close to taking the lead after 29 minutes when Marouane Chamakh went one-on-one with Saints goalkeeper Artur Boruc but ended up in the book for diving.

Jedinak, 29, said: “I felt in the first half we really handled ourselves well. We were unlucky, I don't know about the penalty incident, maybe Cham could have pulled the trigger a little earlier.”

Still, the skipper was full of praise for the new French signing who created chances and linked well upfront.

He said: “He does a lot of work for us. Even today he did a lot of work linking up, holding the ball up.

“That's what we want from him. Obviously we want him to get goals.

“I would have been buzzing if he scored that one in the first half. I think it would have changed the complexity of the whole game.

“It puts them on their toes, having to force things.”

But Jedinak, with 78 Palace appearances under his belt, knows there must be improvement if the team is to stay in the Premier League.

He said: “I think we knew what to expect. Now we have played six games, you get the harsh realities of it quickly. That's what we've got to try and adapt to and quickly.

“I think the results will come. Even today, from what we had last week, you could see the difference.

“We were a bit more organised structurally. We had the game plan right, there was no confusion.”

He added: “I am very positive and very encouraged by what we are seeing but it has got to turn into points sooner or later.

“It is going to take time, but to me if you're a good footballer you try to adapt as quick as you can and you've got to be willing to adapt as quick as you can.

“That's what's happening. It's always going to take time. It's not for lack of trying.”
