Brentford boss Uwe Rosler has demanded better defending from his team and, as if to prove the point, has extended the loan deal of Everton youngster Jake Bidwell.

The 18-year-old England U19 international has already made 11 appearances for Rosler’s men and will remain at Griffin Park until March 20 – the day before his 19th birthday.

Brentford crashed 2-1 at Colchester Untied on Tuesday, thanks to a brace of late goals from Steven Gillespie – the second of which Bees keeper Richard Lee would hope to have done better with.

Rosler, who saw Niall McGinn give his side a second-half lead, highlighted Karleigh Osborne’s continued absence as part of the problem, but insisted his men – including Bidwell – must improve when Carlisle United visit on Monday.

“It looked like we panicked a little bit when we were leading,” he said.

“We looked comfortable, but they started hitting long balls in to our box and we have to deal better with that.

“It is a little bit down to experience.

“We will have to see how Karleigh is, but we have to look at ourselves for the goals we conceded.

“We have to mark better and we have to deal better with that sort of situation.”

Bidwell has been named in the England U19 squad to play the Czech Republic on February 28 and is the youngest player to feature for Everton in a European fixture.

And Rosler was delighted to get his man.

“He has been a consistent performer, probably our most consistent in the back four in recent weeks,” he added.

“I can only take my hat off to him for the level of performance he has delivered.

“I believe Everton see he is in good hands and they decided to allow him to stay.”
