Bees' Simpson just happy to be injury free

Robbie Simpson's electric start to his Brentford career is helping him put last season's injury nightmare behind him.

The 28-year-old winger scored a stunning free-kick against Hull City on Tuesday to take his tally to two goals in four starts since joining the Bees on a season-long loan from League One rivals Huddersfield.

If he starts again tomorrow against Rochdale, he will already have surpassed the amount of starts he made for the Terriers in an injury-plagued 2009-2010 season.

"It's been a good start for me here and I am delighted," said the Loughborough University graduate.

"I am just really excited that I am playing again injury free and just grabbing the opportunity with both hands.

"Luckily it's paying off at the moment and hopefully it will continue for me and for Brentford."

Simpson only joined Huddersfield last summer from Coventry City but saw his debut season with the Terriers blighted by a torn thigh muscle that he first injured in October and then again in February.

"It was a nightmare season," he admitted.

"I tore my thigh and kept doing it.

"I went to see a specialist in March though and he thankfully seems to have sorted out the problem, touch wood.

"I wanted to go back and do pre-season with Huddersfield and prove to them I am free from injury and it's a fresh start for me.

"I think I did that but the manager wanted to bring in a couple of players in my position and he thought it might be best for me to go out and get some games as I hardly had any last season and I agreed with him.

"I just want to get back to playing again, scoring goals and helping Brentford achieve their aim of finishing higher than last year and maybe push for the play-offs.

"We have been performing quite well but two lapses in concentration have cost us goals and games so we need to carry on what we did against Hull.

"Everyone was focussed and concentrating fully for the 90 minutes and we need to do that against Rochdale.

"If we do it could kick-start our season.

"A lot of players came in quite late like myself so this has been a bedding-in period and getting everyone to gel.

"Hopefully we can repeat what we did against Hull on Saturday, get three points and prove we are a play-off chasing team."
