Brentford extended their unbeaten run to six games with a comfortable 4-1 win at MK Dons on Saturday to leave boss Dean Smith in confident mood ahead of tonight's trip to promotion-chasing Hull City.

Defeat consigned the home side to relegation as goals from Sergi Canos, Lasse Vibe, Ryan Woods and Jake Bidwell ensured the Bees ran out surprisingly easy winners to continue their fine end to the season.

Smith was far from happy with his side's performance but believes their continued good form in terms of results will make them a threat at the KC Stadium.

Sweet strike: Sergi Canos hit a cultured opening goal against MK Dons on Saturday

“I thought the result was more satisfactory than the performance," he said.

"We can play better than that. We scored the goals at the right time and I feel that's the difference in this league at times.

"We wanted to back up the performances in recent weeks. We had to work hard. We gave them a few too many chances for my liking."

He added: "Hull will be a tough game. They've got really good players.

"We've played a lot of games already in April. But on the run of form we're on, with our goal difference going back to zero now, our players will go there with a lot of heart.

Bang: Ryan Woods scored from distance against MK Dons on Saturday

The Bees started brightly at stadium MK and in the opening stages a great run down the right saw Maxime Colin saw him cross the ball and Canos just fail to get his head to the ball.

Yet the home side went ahead within six minutes when Josh Murphy did well to beat Colin on the left and his cross into the six yard box was rifled home by Nicky Maynard.

The Bees were level just two minutes later when Canos picked up the ball on the edge of the box, took his time to pick his spot and curled the ball into the top corner.

Lasse Vibe had a great chance when he closed down, then took the ball off keeper Cody Cropper, but he took too long to shoot, with his effort blocked by a covering defender.

Rare goal: Skipper Jake Bidwell's free kick from distance eluded everyone including the MK Dons keeper on Saturday

After Alan McCormack conceded a free kick on the edge of the box Carl Baker's effort landed on the roof of the net.

Nico Yennaris had a chance for the Bees early in the second half, firing a low shot wide of the left hand post.

The travelling fans didn't have long to wait to see their side go ahead, when Vibe latched onto a long ball over the top and took his time with a composed shot into the bottom right hand corner.

MK Dons were denied by a superb challenge from Yoann Barbet, who chased back after Maynard burst through the middle and made a last ditch tackle on the penalty spot and he and David Button combined to deny the striker.

The Dons came close again when they broke down the right and after the ball came into the box Murphy missed a wide open goal from close range.

Brentford added a third with a well-crafted goal twelve minutes before the end. McCormack picked out Bidwell on the left and after substitute Marco Djuricin's effort from the cross was blocked, Ryan Woods picked his spot from the edge of the box.

The Bees wrapped things up with a marvellous free kick from Jake Bidwell, whose shot from wide on the right beat everybody to find the bottom left corner.

Brentford: Button; Colin (sub Clarke 60), Dean, Barbet, Bidwell; Canos (sub Gogia 76), Yennaris, Woods, Kerschbaumer, McCormack, Vibe (sub Djuricin 60).

Subs (not used): Bonham, O'Connell, Cole, Swift.
