Brentford goalkeeper David Button says Brentford’s solid start to the campaign has come as no surprise to him this season.

Boss Mark Warburton’s men have secured 17 points from their opening 11 games this term and sit 10th in the table ahead of Saturday’s trip to former boss Uwe Rosler’s Wigan Athletic.

Rosler, who came close to promotion to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs last term, has seen his Latics struggle this term by comparison.

The Bees secured a 3-1 win over Reading prior to the international break and have already claimed some notable scalps this season including a 2-0 triumph over Leeds United and a 3-2 win against Brighton & Hove Albion.

And Button, who has started each of the side’s 12 games thus far, expects another to be added to that list.

“There are things we still want to improve on and we feel if a couple of decisions had not gone against us we could have had a few more points, but we cannot complain,” said the 25-year-old.

“It has been no surprise to us. We were quite confident going in to the season because we knew the quality of the players we have here.

“We have hit our targets. We have done nothing more than we expected.”

Button, who has appeared for 15 different clubs in his relatively brief career, had played in the Championship with Charlton Athletic prior to his switch to Griffin Park.

And, having found his feet with one club, he is hoping to kick on.

“This is my home. This time around I’m playing week in, week out and I’m enjoying it,” he added.

“Playing at this level is nothing new to me, I knew what to expect.

“Now I have the confidence of playing regularly behind me I feel I will only improve.”

Midfielders Stuart Dallas, Tommy Smith and Sam Saunders are all back in training after injury and are expected to feature for the development squad next week.

But all, as well as Toumani Diagouraga, will have a hard task to get past in-form Jonathan Douglas.

And boss Mark Warburton is confident of pinning the former Leeds United star down to a new contract.

“In the summer, I had envisaged rotating Dougie with one or two of the other players, but he has been brilliant since the start of the season,” he added.

“His level of consistency has been superb. Hopefully, we can come to some sort of agreement with him. I’ve got no concerns.”
