A third consecutive defeat brought another disappointing season to a close for Brentford, as they lost 1-0 to Stockport County at Edgeley Park on Saturday, writes Simon Webster.

Stockport rested their star players who were resting ahead of their play-off challenge.

So Brentford's sorry display was all the more disturbing and manager Andy Scott has promised wholesale changes this summer.

Scott said: "I didn't have much to say to them.

"As far as I am concerned I'm not going to say anything because the majority playing today won't be here next season so there is no point wasting breath on them."

Scott also confirmed that he has already told Simon Brown, Craig Pead and Charlie Ide that they do not figure in his plans for the future and they can start looking for a new club.

Should all three depart Griffin Park Scott will be left with a squad of just nine and a major influx of players will be inevitable.

Brentford made two changes from last week, with Osei Sankofa and John Mousinho coming in while Craig Pead and Wayne Brown dropped to the bench.

Glenn Poole had the first chance of the match after seven minutes when a left foot screamer from 30 yards came back off the right hand post.

The game was a scappy affair and it wasn't until midway through the first half that County had their first chance on goal.

Following a foul by Alan Bennett on the edge of the box, Ryan Lowe saw his free kick scrambled clear. Within a minute Lowe was able to cross from the left and a Leon McSweeney shot from six yards brought a good save out of Ben Hamer.

In a rare break forward Brentford earned a free kick just outside the box, but Kevin O'Connor's strike was comfortably saved by Conrad Logan.

Hamer was again called into action when McSweeney got the better of Karleigh Osborne and as he raced into the box Hamer made a good smothering save at his feet.

Five minutes into the second half Stockport got what proved to be the decisive goal.

Following a throw in on the right hand side the Bees failed to clear the resulting cross and debutant Gianluca Havern was able to hook his shot from ten yards into the right hand corner of the net.

Brentford continued to huff and puff without creating any chances of note. As the half progressed the end of season nature of the game became all too apparent.

Substitute Darius Charles made a good break down the left hand wing before being tackled as he shaped to cross.

In stoppage time Ricky Shakes wasted a glorious opportunity to equalise when he headed over from six yards while unmarked.

It was that kind of a day for Brentford, and a frustrated Andy Scott, who is now vowing to work hard to bring in the players he wants over the summer.

"But I will be working ever so hard now to get the right players in because that lot aren't good enough," he said.

I have got to go away now for a couple of months and have that taste in my mouth.

"But in a way that is probably a good thing because I'll be more determined to get players out and get players in.

"Yes, it is going to be a busy summer. I always knew it would be. But it might be even busier now."
