Seb Brown has labelled calls for AFC Wimbledon manager Terry Brown to be sacked as ludicrous.
The Dons are on a dreadful run of form having not won in 12 league games and losing the last six in a row – the latest 4-1 and 2-0 defeats to Southend United and Swindon Town either side of New Year’s Day.
They have dropped to eight points above the relegation zone and a small minority of Wimbledon fans have started questioning whether Brown is the man to lead them in the Football League.
But goalkeeper Seb Brown was disgusted they could consider axing the man who led them from Blue Square South to League Two.
“It would be ludicrous to think about getting rid of him, especially given what he has achieved,” said the 22-year-old.
“You can understand, with the run of form we are on, why some people would say that, but it is inept and disrespectful.
“It is his first time in the league as well and we are only halfway through the season, we are not six weeks from the end and needing to win every game to stay up.
“I was at Brentford when we had three managers in one season and the end result was still the same, it doesn’t help.
“He has January to make any changes he wants to make and it is better standing back and letting people do what they want to.
“When you look back at 2011 as a whole, most people would agree we have had a pretty good year and you cannot knock that.
“The start we had in the league was good and we probably put our expectations up a bit.
“We have just hit a bad run of form, it is a bit worrying and we need to break that rut.”
The luck seemed to have turned Dons’ way against Southend United on Saturday after Brown saved Neil Harris’s spot-kick and Jack Midson put them ahead.
But Christian Jolley’s reckless tackle on the stroke of half-time earned him a red card and the Dons could not cope with the promotion-chasers after the break – falling to their seventh home defeat this season.
In Swindon on Monday, there was plenty of effort but no final outcome for the Dons, who do not play again until January 14.
“You cannot lay the blame on one thing,” added Seb Brown.
“We have had some bad luck with goals, bounces going against us and individual errors – there’s no one that can look and say they are 100 per cent about this season.
“I am sure it will take one lucky break for us, grounding out a scrappy 1-0 win somewhere and we will be back on track.
“It is not a case of making wholesale changes to what we are doing.
“It is just making sure everyone is together, eliminating things we can and controlling what we can.”
