Kedwell: Elder partnership suits me fine

Danny Kedwell admits his lethal partnership with Jon Main may be a thing of the past thanks to the recent exploits of Nathan Elder.

Loan signing Elder struck his fourth goal in five games since his switch from Shrewsbury in Saturday’s 2-1 win at Luton Town, with Kedwell notching the winner.

And the 26-year-old frontman reckons his burgeoning partnership with Elder could be the key to AFC Wimbledon’s promotion dreams.

Kedwell said: “It is a completely different way of playing when me and Nathan are up front together and it is really working.

“When you have two big men up front it causes defences all sorts of problems and we are reaping the benefits.

“If anything I am actually playing the Jon Main role now.

“When I came back into the side after injury it took me a while to get used to playing alongside Nathan and it was hard to adapt.

“In a way it was like starting the season all over again.

“But we are really firing - I know it is pretty harsh on Jon as he scored twice in his last game (against Tooting) but me and Nathan seem to be the way forward.”

Wimbledon’s crucial win at Kenilworth Road re-ignited their play-off charge in front of a bumper crowd of nearly 8,000.

And the Dons were expect to taste a similar atmosphere on Tuesday night when they travel to Oxford United.

Kedwell added: “Games like that are all about the development of the side.

“In many ways it was like playing a Football League game.

“You say to people to block out the crowd but you cannot block out noise and passion like that.

“So to go to places like that and win is massive for a young side like ours.

“We have had a lot of knocks this season with injuries but we keep bouncing back.

“I think the squad that the boss has put together is very strong and that is really paying off at the moment.

“There is a great character in the squad and we are all pushing each other on to succeed.”

AFC Wimbledon’s next three matches: Mar 6 Altrincham (h), 9 Crawley Town (a), 13 Eastbourne Borough (h)
