AFC Wimbledon manager Neal Ardley is taking it one game at a time as he looks to break a Dons curse as well as win promotion.

The Dons have not had back-to-back victories in League Two since December 2014, and having beaten Barnet 2-0 on Saturday Ardley insists he will not to put too much pressure on his side ahead of Saturday's trip to high-flying Oxford United.

Victory at the Kassam stadium would not only give the Dons that consecutive win, it would also set up a shot at a third consecutive win, something Ardley has not achieved in three-year tenure.

The Dons also face play-off chasing Accrington Stanley later this month.

Ardley said: “When you play teams that are further down the league, that’s when we struggle so I’m looking forward to the challenges.

“As a manager, I won’t be putting any added pressure on the lads by ever claiming a game is a ‘must win’ or anything like that.

“If we lose, we brush ourselves down and carry on, that’s the mentality we need to have.

“What I will say though is that the fans should be pleased that we now have a side in which we can head into matches as the favourites.

“We’ve only lost one of our previous eight, and anyone who watches us regularly will see it’s only twice the opposition has been better than us this season, the rest of the time we’ve been the better side."

Although George Francomb missed a spot-kick, goals from Lyle Taylor and Sean Rigg did for Barnet and lifted the Dons to 13th in the League Table.

Ardley said: “We have a good group of lads and if we all pull together then there’s no reason we can’t compete with the top sides in this division.

“I don’t really look at the league however, it’s about performance levels. If we keep chipping away, we can see where we are with seven or so games left and see what we have to work towards.

“We really need to start tucking our chances away, the game [against Barnet] was a horrible one, it was slow and sloppy, but we got the victory so we can now look to build on that heading into the next match.”
