Kingstonian boss Alan Dowson has labelled the demolition of Kingsmeadow’s Kingston Road terrace the end of an era, but insisted it was for the best.

Striker Allan Tait became the last Ks player to score a league goal infront of the popular section of the ground, when he netted a brace in Monday’s 2-1 Ryman Premier League triumph over Met Police.

The section will flattened this week to be replaced by a 900-seat stand to help landlords AFC Wimbledon get in line with Football League regulations, which mean they must have 2,000 seats under cover, leaving fans fearing it will wreck the non-League feel of the ground.

But Dowson disagrees.

“Fans will look at it as an end of an era, but the new stand will look fantastic,” he said.

“Fans will forever remember the likes of Dave Leaworthy popping in goals for fun at that end, but those memories will remain.

“For now it is out with the old and in with the new.”

Tait fired Ks to the win on Monday as Dowson’s side bounced back from a 4-1 drubbing at the hands of Wealdstone.

He followed it up with one of five goals that accounted for Cray Wandereres in a 5-2 London Senior Cup semi-final triumph on Thursday - the other goals came from Tommy Huthinson, Gary MacDonald (2) and Aaron Goode.

And the Kingsmeadow chief admitted his form could give him a selection headache come the final against Hendon at Imber Court next week.

“Allan is a smashing fella, but he has struggled with injury this year,” he said.

“He took his chance and if he does it again, I’m going to have some tough decisions to make.

"But you would rather have them at this time of the year, than not.

Kingstonian travel to Hendon in the league tomorrow.
