Brentford sriker Mike Grellla has been shown the Griffin Park exit door, three months after netting four in a 6-0 Johnstone’s Paint Trophy triumph.
The 25-year-old American, signed from Leeds United in August, saw his contract terminated on Wednesday by mutual consent, having made only four starts and 13 substitute appearances for the Bees.
Grella’s qaudruple in November proved to be his only goals for the club, but he had hoped they would lead to an extended run in the team.
“I’ve come here to play. Every player here wants to play games. If I’m not playing on Saturday I’ll be disappointed,” he said at the time.
“But you have to respect what the manager says and the team he picks.
“At the end of the day it is a long season and it is much more important we accomplish something together.”
Grella has moved on to different avenues, which was always likely given the arrival of West Brom loanee Saido Berahino.
And, like any self-respecting footballer these days, he confirmed his exit on Twitter.
“Just want to give thanks to everyone involved at Brentford fans and staff. All the boys there you know I love you and wish you the best,” he tweeted on Wednesday.
