I’m glad it was an away game and I’m glad I had not already booked my £35 train ticket to Preston.
Beers with mates in front of the Six Nations meant I was otherwise engaged on Saturday anyway, as the thought of trading the pub for the frozen north never crossed my mind.
Judging by the fact the rugby leaguers at London Broncos got a game on, I’m surprised the Preston boys didn’t fancy a bit of rough and tumble at the weekend.
Some say it was playable in Preston, I’m saying they might not be as tough in Lancashire as they sometimes like to make out.
About this time of year people start banging on about the merits of a scheduled winter break, but we don’t need one. There is generally an enforced one anyway.
If there was one inserted into the fixture list, the season would last into June.
What’s more, what would managers, who moan about fixture pile-ups, have to whinge about.
I like the thought of playing three games in eight days for weeks on end. With all the match practise, surely Brentford could only get better.
