Leatherhead striker Tom Hutchings was delighted to bag his first goal of the campaign against Fleet Town on Tuesday night.
It proved a successful evening all round for the Tanners as won 3-1 to take them up to fourth in Ryman League Division One South.
Hutchings said: “Hopefully it is the first of many.
“It hasn’t been a great start to the season for me in terms of goals but I have been working hard in training getting fitter and sharper.
“To get that first goal is a relief but now I just want to kick on and get some goals.
“Although I just want to help the team so if I don’t score but we win then that is great as well.
Captain Chris Boulter and in form striker Greg Andrews got the others but Hutchings, a former AFC Wimbledon youngster, admitted Fleet made it took.
“It was a good win and performance,” he said.
“It was a gritty game and we haven’t been firing on all cylinders recently but it is important to win these games.
“We have played some tough games already and picking points up against sides like Worthing and Fleet is good because they will take points off of teams this season.
Andrews, whose hat-trick on Saturday helped the Tanners to a 3-1 win at Chipstead – two of them coming in the last four minutes – took his tally to four for the season with his strike on Tuesday night.
And Hutchings is not suprised by his striker partner’s electric start to the season.
Hutchings said: “He is class. He is always going to get goals as he is a natural goalscorer. Greg is chuffed with his start to the season and we are all really pleased for him.
We have got a great team atmosphere. We are all friends and some squads don’t necessarily have that.”
Leatherhead’s next three games: Sep 11 Merstham (a), Sep 18 Whitehawk (h), Sep 21 Corinthian Casuals (a)
