Andy Scott says the row over former Bees defender Michael Turner’s transfer from Hull City to Sunderland is not a distraction because it is not his cash to spend.
Brentford have written to the Football League with concerns over the fee paid by the Black Cats for the 25-year-old, while a disciplinary hearing into their dispute with Charlton Athletic over a sell-on clause and subsequent fees - negotiated when Turner switched to Griffin Park in 2004 - is due on November 30.
Hull had reportedly turned down a £6million bid for the former Addicks youngster from Liverpool in August - publicly demanding a figure closer to £12million - before eventually agreeing a £3.5million deal with Sunderland on the eve of the transfer window closing.
News Sunderland’s Paul McShane had moved to the KC Stadium for £500,000 in the days leading up to the Turner transfer going through and a reduction in proceeds the Bees had expected to receive, have raised suspicions over the deal.
But Scott insists it is not something he is concerned with given the money may never end up in his playing budget.
“Whenever the club gets more money it is up to the board to decide how to spend it. If I knew the money was going to me of course I’d be thinking about it, but I’m not sure I’ll get any,” he said.
“I’m always wanting more money to improve the squad. We have to improve year on year, but it is out of my hands as to how the extra money that comes in is spent, until I’m told otherwise.”
