Terry Brown admits his AFC Wimbledon side are feeling the heat as the temperature rises in the Blue Square South title race.

The Dons have drawn three successive games, the most recent a 0-0 draw at St Alban’s on Tuesday night, which has seen their lead at the top reduced to just six points.

And with second-placed Hampton & Richmond having a game in hand, and still to play the Dons at home, Brown accepts the pressure is mounting.

He said: “There is no question that the team are getting anxious.

“There is too much anxiety, and the desire not to make a mistake has overtaken the desire to push forward and win games.

“Three draws on the spin is not a disaster - I had targeted six points out of nine from the three games, so to get three is not the end of the world.

“But what it has done is given all of our rivals a chance to claw back at us, and they have taken advantage of that.”

The stalemate at St Alban’s followed Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Weston-Super-Mare, with Jon Main once again on the scoresheet.

But, despite only conceding one goal in their last five league games, the Dons have only scored three in that same period.

And Brown has called on his midfield to pick up the slack.

He added: “We have two strikers in Jon Main and Danny Kedwell who are always going to score goals, but they need the service.

“So it would be too simplistic of me to just say we are not scoring.

“We are not creating enough chances, and a lot of that comes down to the midfield.

“The problem we have is being unable to field the same side week in, week out.

“We are suffering from injuries, and we are lacking continuity, which is vital at this stage of the season.

“So now it is up to us to just tough it out.”

AFC face struggling Dorchester Town on Saturday as they return to Kingsmeadow.

And Brown is looking forward to some home comforts.

He added: “It will be great to have a run of home games.

“We just need to get a win to get things going again.

“It is still all about what we do.

“People keep telling me the big games are the likes of Eastleigh and Hampton, but often the bigger games are the easiest.

“It is the likes of Dorchester that we cannot slip up in, so it is a crucial game for us.”
