Sutton United welcome Crystal Palace U21s to Gander Green Lane on Saturday, and boss Paul Doswell is hoping to see the stars of future Match of the Day.

The pre-season campaign has already brought Fulham and Portsmouth to the Lane, and United went to Kingstonian on Wednesday.

Doswell said: “We all know we’d never get the first team – but there are a lot of local Palace fans in the area and I am sure they will turn up and watch their stars of the future.

“There are plenty of U21 teams that we have played over the past few seasons where the players on show appear on Match of the Day some time later – especially with Chelsea.”

He added: “To play Fulham and Palace helps with the connections to those clubs.

“Now we’re a National League side, there is every chance we could go to Palace or Fulham and ask them for a loan, and you’re more likely to get a yes.”
