Shrewsbury Town midfielder Ian Black believes the League One outfit could tie down Crystal Palace loanee Sullay Kaikai on a longer deal because he wants to stay at the club.

The promising 20-year-old has shone since joining Town on a loan deal in September, scoring four goals in eight appearances and being named the PFA Fans League One Player of the Month for October.

Kaikai’s loan move expires in January but Black, who also joined the club in September, believes his contract could be extended.

“I think if he had to make a decision now and you asked him, he’d stay,” the former Scotland international was quoted as saying by the Shropshire Star.

“I’m sure if they approached him sooner rather than later, they could get it done. That’s up to the chairman and the board, but all the boys want him to stay.

“He’s a good lad and it’s the same with all the players whose deals are up in January because it’s a good changing room.”

Kaikai, a product of Palace’s youth setup, is set for a return to first-team action after missing Shrewsbury’s last two games with a knee injury.

And Black, 30, admitted his return provides Micky Mellon with a welcome boost going into the fixture against Wigan on Saturday.

“It’s a boost, because the boy has great ability,” he added.

“He brings another dimension to our game. He’s very direct so, hopefully, he can stay fit and we’ll see what the gaffer picks.”
