Crystal Palace midfielder Joe Ledley believes the club can target a Wembley final after their 4-1 demolition of Charlton in the Capital One Cup last night.

Despite failing to break down the Championship side for 50 minutes, Palace eventually wrapped up a convincing victory over their local rivals at Selhurst Park.

Campbell is congratulated after giving Palace the lead

Fraizer Campbell gave the Eagles the lead with a low finish shortly after the break, before Dwight Gayle sealed a second-half hat-trick in the space of 27 minutes.

And after consolidating their position in the Premier League since gaining promotion in 2013, Ledley insists the Eagles can now turn their attentions to silverware.

“I think this club need a Cup final at Wembley now, just to get there and see how we go,” the 28-year-old said.

“The club have been doing everything right and it would be nice to see how we did.

“I made an FA Cup Final with Cardiff when we were playing in the Championship and, it doesn’t matter who you play, you just need some luck and you can leave with the trophy.

“You need a little bit of luck in draws and in the overall competition, but with the fans behind us anything can happen.”

Palace, who currently sit 8th in the league, failed to record a single shot on target before the interval and appeared to be growing frustrated by the Addicks’ admirable defence.

However, Wales international Ledley said it was only a matter of time until the Eagles stormed ahead.

“In the last round we took it a little bit too late with extra-time but I thought we started well tonight,” he added.

“We dominated the game, they only had one shot in the first half.

“It was difficult because they just packed in and trying to break them down was frustrating, but we knew after we got the first there was going to be more.

“They dug in well in the first half, but it was only a matter of time."

Diarra was sent off on a dissapointing evening for Charlton

The Palace midfielder, who has played 53 games for the club since signing from Celtic in 2014, also dismissed the claim that Charlton should have had a penalty early into the second period.

He said: “I don’t think it was, he’s gone down a little bit too easily.

“Adrian Mariappa has just got his body there, it would have been a little bit harsh.

“I thought he got our one’s right – obviously I would say that – but to be fair I think he did.

“We’ve got a great team here, not just the starting eleven.

“The whole squad pushes each other and that’s what you need – hopefully now we can get back to our form in the league.”

Crystal Palace have been drawn to face Manchester City away in the fourth round of the competition.
