Sutton United start their FA Cup journey this weekend, with boss Paul Doswell already feeling the magic is not with them this season.

United go to National League South rivals Bishop’s Stortford on Saturday, looking to reach the third qualifying round.

They take good form into the trip, having beaten Weston-super-Mare 2-0 in league action last weekend – goals from Bedsente Gomis and Tom Bolarinwa doing the business.

However, Doswell admitted this weekend’s clash is not what he wanted.

“It’s a disappointing draw. You want a home draw and then you want a team that is not in your league at this stage of the competition,” he said.

“But if we turn up and play against them like we did against Ebbsfleet and Weston-super-Mare, then we give ourselves a great chance to get through.”

He added: “Bishop’s Stortford will not be over the moon that they have drawn us either – it’s not a great draw for either team.

“We will prepare for it as best we can, but at home they are a decent team, so they are to be respected and I think we are in for a decent cup game.”

United are without Dean Beckwith (suspended), although Simon Downer is back from injury and available to play.

Meanwhile, with Doswell's former club Eastleigh having parted company with Richard Hill this week, rumours have linked Dowsell with a return to the south.

However, he insists nothing would pull him away from the Lane.

He said: "I would not dream of leaving United and me being at Eastleigh is never going to happen again.

"I am very happy where I am."
