Despite reports to the contrary, Whyteleafe boss John Fowler says skipper Jason Thompson has not left Church Road.
The popular midfielder will be around for another season, but commitments away from football will seriously curtail his appearances.
Instead, the 26-year-old will continue to train with the club and, should it be necessary, try to make himself available to the first team.
Fowler said: "Jason has not left, he is signing, but because of family commitments he will not be able to play the same role as last year.
"He will get involved in training, and if we're short he will try to juggle things so he can play, but I don't want to rely on that scenario.
"But he is very influential for the younger players in the squad, and he will be around the club in some capacity."
He added: "Most importantly he will not be playing against us for another team, it's just circumstances keeping him out."
