Boss Mark Warburton reckons Brentford are reaping the benefits of the careful handling of midfielder Jota.

The 23-year-old scored a wonder goal and played a significant role in Andre Gray’s winner as the Bees returned to winning ways with a 3-2 triumph at Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday.

Warburton’s Championship play-off chasers have now won every game – eight – in which the young Spaniard has found the net.

And the manager would love that run to continue until the end of the season.

“When he first arrived we tried to introduce him to English football in the right manner,” said Warburton.

“Playing Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday is a big ask for a Spanish player – it is very different to what he is comfortable with.

“We used him as a substitute and he didn’t play the full 90 minutes when he started.

“He has got stronger, trained well and has become an athlete.

“The challenge for him was to replicate his home form when we go away and he has done that now.

“Players like him and Moses Odubajo are not big names in the division. They have quietly gone about their business and we are reaping the benefits of that.

“Jota has been very professional and an absolute pleasure to have at the club.

“I cannot speak highly enough of him.”
