Crystal Palace skipper Mile Jedinak has been charged with violent conduct by the FA after appearing to elbow Diafra Sakho during Saturday’s 3-1 win at West Ham United.

The Aussie was making his return to the Palace midfield after returning from the Asian Cup, and the incident happened towards the end of the game.

If found guilty, the 30-year-old would miss four games as he has already been sent off this season.

Speaking before the FA's decision, Palace boss Alan Pardew had called for Jedinak not to be punished, instead asking clear guidelines on retrospective punishment.

He said: "I’ve seen it and I’ve seen worse incidents where nothing has happened so I’ll be surprised if something happens with this.

"I think it’s a problem and the FA need to be very careful with it.

"We had an incident with [Craig] Dawson on [Julian] Speroni that I saw this morning and nothing was done.

"So it is about – what are the guidelines and what are we doing? In retrospect it’s very, very difficult and I think the FA have a tough job as well.

"The tackle on Stephen Ireland [by Figueroa] at the weekend is much more serious than Mile's challenge."

He added: "In retrospect it's very difficult. Where do the draw the line? Does the referee ref it?

"We need some clear guidelines. Does the referee ref it and see what he’s seen, but retrospectively with diving and sending offs, all of this is in the agenda of course and we need to have some clear guidelines."

Jedinak had until 6pm on Tuesday to respond to the charge.
