Striker Charlie Moone reckons Tuesday’s win over Maidstone United makes boss Alan Dowson the man to lead Hampton & Richmond Borough back tot he Conference South.

Moone, who also had a goal disallowed for handball, stuck what proved to be the winner in a 2-1 Ryman Premier League triumph over Maidstone United on Tuesday, meaning the Beavers have now beaten each of the division’s top three teams under the ex-Kingstonian manager.

Hampton have used more than 60 players in a season-long scrap against relegation.

But Moone, who has struck 14 league goals this term. has backed Dowson to find the winning formula for a tilt at promotion next term.

“I’ve scored against all the top three teams now,” he said.

“It is easier to set yourself up for those games because you know their style of play.

“The big teams don’t tend to change their approach much because they believe their players are better than you.

“Dowse deserves credit for how he set us up tactically for those games and his experience of this league has been key.

He added: “I look at this club and it is set up for the Conference South off the pitch and we have to prove we deserve to be there on it.

“Alan believes he is the man to get us there and I enjoy playing under him.

“Alan should be judged on next season, when he has been able to pull together his team over the summer.

“But it is hard to think about next season though, because we first have to make sure we are still in this division by then.”

Hampton head to VCD Athletic tomorrow.
