Carshalton Athletic boss Tommy Williams still believes that, despite his side suffering two league defeats on the spin, his project is slowly moving in the right direction.

The Robins were on the wrong side of a 6-3 goal fest at Concord Rangers on Saturday before relinquishing a half-time lead to eventually lose 3-2 at Cray Wanderers on Tuesday.

The Cray defeat means the Robins have shipped 15 goals in four games, and one of those was a clean-sheet.

Williams said: “Our performance at Cray was much better and we deserved something from that game.

“We tightened up considerably after conceding the six at Concord and kept battling after Cray’s third went in.”

Carshalton did in fact lead in both games at certain times and Williams feels that, by not falling foul to individual mistakes, his side will soon start picking up some much-needed points.

“I spoke to some of the players individually after Saturday but I also include mistakes by officials too," he said.

"We had a stonewall penalty denied at Concord when we were only losing 3-2 and that may of changed the complexion of the game had we converted it."

The Robins are hitting the back of the net themselves however, with forward Nathaniel Pinney grabbing one in each game and defender Justyn Roberts curling home a beautiful free kick against Cray.

Williams said: “That is a definite positive, with Ola Sogbanmu and Sol Pinnock chipping in too, but we are a young side and it will take a few more games for everyone to completely gel together.”
