Ashtead fell agonisingly short of victory as they lost to Beddington by just one run in Surrey Championship division one on Saturday.
Ashtead restricted Beddington to 183-5 from their 50 overs but found themselves in trouble at 92-6 in their chase before Colin Pitt’s 54 put them back on target.
They went into the final ball with one wicket left and one run needed to draw – but Tom Deighton pushed straight to mid-off and was run-out.
There was not as much drama for Banstead in the Premier Division as they beat Malden Wanderers by five wickets.
Surrey’s Tom Lancefield took 2-10 as Wanderers were bowled out for 191 and Jak Martin top-scored with 49 as Banstead eased to their target.
Leatherhead beat Trinity Mid-Whitgiftian by six wickets in division two and Epsom lost by 12 runs to Staines & Laleham in division four.
Saturday: Banstead v Wimbledon, Purley v Ashtead, Leatherhead v Farnham, Epsom v Old Wimbledonians.
