Former Hampton School student Toby Roland-Jones has admitted being a handed an England Test call-up came as a surprise.

The 28-year-old has been named in England's squad to face Pakistan with the call coming hours after helping Middlesex to a thrilling County Championship Division One victory over Yorkshire.

Roland-Jones, who has taken 30 first class wickets this term, claimed six wickets in the match that saw Middlesex to the win by an innings and four runs at Lord's on Wednesday.

“This was all a bit of a surprise and shock to me really, but of course it was one of the most pleasing phone calls I’ve ever received," said the Ashford-born seamer.

"It’s taking a bit of time to settle in, but I’m really excited about the prospect of playing for England and can’t wait to meet up with the rest of the team and get involved.”

Roland-Jones will be in the Middlesex squad when they host Glamorgan at Richmond Cricket Club's Old Deer Park home on Friday (5:30pm start).
