Mike Haigh, one of the county's most respected lawn bowlers, has been awarded the highest accolade the Surrey County Bowling Association can award - that of life member.
A sports enthusiast, Haigh, in his younger days, was captain of Cheam's cricket first XI (1975 - 1977), played for Cheam's hockey first XI for 16 years, and was a Surrey county regular and England U23 trialist.
It was in 1983 that he changed codes at Cheam Sports Club, transferring his sporting skills to the bowling green.
But it was not just to the playing side of the game. Haigh has always believed in giving back to the sport and over the years has been match secretary, secretary and captain at Cheam.
In 1994, he was elected to the Surrey County Bowling Association executive committee, where his presence and contributions were quickly felt and appreciated.
He was assistant county secretary for more than seven years and has served on the county's key finance and general purposes committee.

In 2002, he was honoured by being elected Surrey county president, leading Surrey to the finals of the English National (inter-county) Middleton Cup competition at Worthing.
He is currently publicity officer and is the county's bowls correspondent for the Surrey Comet series.
The honour of life member is not handed out lightly; indeed it is a rare event. It is awarded only to those who have given exceptional service to the county and to the sport in general - and Haigh certainly deserves it.
