Two-time Olympian Jade Johnson was the star attraction at the Surrey County Athletics Championships at Kingsmeadow on Saturday.

The 31-year-old Herne Hill Harrier leapt 6.25m to claim the women’s long jump crown, in only her second competition since August 2010.

Johnson, a finalist at the Athens and Bejing Games, needs to jump the Olympic A qualifying standard of 6.75m to have a chance of making London 2012 her third Olympic appearance.

Walton Athletics Club’s Helen Channon finished fourth behind Johnson, while Channon’s sister Susan McLoughlin clocked 65.89 seconds to finish second in the women’s 400m hurdles.

Robert Smith threw 41.12m to collect silver in the men’s hammer and middle distance runner Hugo Fleming earned men’s 800m silver in a time of one minute, 55.85 seconds.

Veteran competitor Greg Conlon vaulted 4.00m to come second in the men’s pole vault.

Lisa O’Brien added to Walton’s medal haul as she ran 15.88secs for U20 100m hurdles silver and leapt 5.05m for women’s U20s long jump silver.

Kingston & Polytechnic Harriers Pippa Wingate claimed a golden double as she won the U20 shot with a throw of 10.63m and recorded a massive 49.06m to claim the hammer title.

She finished second in the U20s discus with a throw of 34.98m.

Amy Richardson won the U13 long jump with a leap of 4.17m and 43-year-old Gareth Cook struck gold in the men’s hammer with a throw of 48.88m.

The protege beat the master as 19-year-old Tom Parry clocked 55.29 seconds to finish second in the men’s 400m hurdles, with his coach Richard Holt, 40, crossing the line in third.

Pheobe Callaghan-Mills won gold in the U17 high jump and Rhianna Reynolds did the same in the U13 event.
