Boss Alan Dowson has admitted signing former AFC Wimbledon striker Mark Nwokeji is part of preparing for life without talismanic frontman Bobby Traynor.

The 30-year-old forward featured in Saturday’s 3-2 Geoff Harvey Memorial Vase triumph at Corinthian Casuals having sealed a return to Kingsmeadow with Ks.

Dowson has not heard from  Traynor since he got married this summer and  Nwokeji, who made his name with a prolific spell at Staines Town, has been drafted in to fill the void.

But the Kingsmeadow chief, who worked with both Traynor and Nwokeji at Walton & Hersham, will keep the door open for the man they call 'Son of Dowse'.

“If Bobby gets on the phone and says he is coming back, then we’ll talk about it, but I haven’t heard from him yet,” he said.

“I have to assume he is not coming back and we are moving on.

“Mark was a bit rusty, but we have to give him time.  I know what he is capable of.”

Dowson is yet to rubberstamp his squad for the coming Ryman Premier League campaign, which kicks off next week.

But he expects to put his cards on the table next week.

“All the players here at the moment want to play for Kingstonian, but it is a question of leaving it as long as possible,” he said.
