Day five of the Olympic Games brings Wandsworth's first genuine medal hopes in a day packed with local action.

First up this morning is former Ernst Bevin School student and current coach Winston Gordon who starts his bid to pick up a medal in his third games.

Gordon will enter the tough 90kg judo competition at 9.51am for the first round of a straight knockout tournament meaning one slip and he's out.

Next up is London Rowing Club's Phelan Hill who will cox the Men's Eights rowing crew down at Eton/Dorney in the 10.30am final.

The team won silver at last year's World Rowing Championships so if they match that performance the boys will surely be happy, one better and they will become heroes.

At 10.40am the Men's Quadruple Sculls semi-finals which includes London Rowing Club's Matt Wells. He won a bronze in Beijing in the double sculls so will be hoping to go at least one better.

Wandsworth-born Emma Pooley will be pushing for a podium place in the Women's Cycling Time Trials which passes through Kingston and Hampton and then out into Surrey.

Pooley played a key role in helping Lizzie Armitstead secure Team GB's first medal on Sunday so all eyes will be on her at 12.30pm when it begins.

Later this afternoon, another Wandsworth native Bryony Shaw continues her quest to win another windsurfing medal after her bronze in Beijing.

After a decent start yesterday, Shaw lies in seventh place but with round two and three today (beginning at 2pm and 2.45pm respectively), she has more chances to move up the table. To see profiles of all of the athletes representing south London visit wandsworthguardian.co.uk
