Two-goal hero Jon Main admitted he was on cloud nine after his double fired AFC Wimbledon to a 3-1 play-off victory over AFC Hornchurch.

Main struck in the 42nd and 90th minutes to book the Dons' place in Saturday's shootout with Staines Town with a Blue Square South spot up for grabs.

And the former Tonbridge Angels hitman revealed his delight at his brace.

Main said: "I really felt up for it tonight.

"I felt like I did a lot of running during the game and I certainly feel like I've done a lot of running now!

"To score the two goals was great.

"We spoke during the week about the need to get behind their defence and really work them and with Tony Finn and Luis Cumbers running at them as well it really paid off."

It was Cumbers who struck after 12 minutes to settle the Dons' nerves after the visitors had made a bright opening.

And with half-time approaching, Main volleyed his first after Jason Goodliffe flicked on a Steve Ferguson throw.

Despite AFC Hornchurch pulling a goal back on 75 minutes through Harry Elmes to set up a frantic finale, Main broke clear to seal victory in stoppage time.

AFC will now face Staines in a weekend winner-takes-all showdown at Wheatsheaf Park.

And Main is relishing the occasion.

He added: "We were the favourites to go through tonight and we should have been.

"But Saturday will be different.

"We won there in the league but we can't really read too much into league games.

"I think it will be a case of who wants it more will get it.

"We have only done half a job and we won't be letting ourselves get carried away."
