Crystal Palace want to sign West Ham flop Jose Fonte.

Fonte, 33, is surplus to requirements at the London Stadium despite only arriving in January.

The Portugal defender joined the Hammers in an £8m deal from Southampton, but has failed to hold down a regular starting spot.

He is behind Winston Reid, Angelo Ogbonna and James Collins in the pecking order.

And Eagles boss Frank de Boer is prepared to offer Fonte a Premier League lifeline to help shore up his shaky defence.

Palace have conceded six goals in their opening three league games in a new-look 3-4-3 formation.

De Boer has brought in Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Jairo Riedewald, and is set to splash the cash on long-term target Mamadou Sakho.

But with his lack of trust in centre-halves James Tomkins and Martin Kelly, he is keen to sign Fonte, who has a wealth of Premier League experience.
