Christian Benteke is trying to convince Mamadou Sakho to stay at Crystal Palace.

Sakho, 27, joined the Eagles on-loan from Liverpool in January, and impressed in his eight games for the club.

A knee injury sustained against Tottenham ended his season last month, but Palace boss Sam Allardyce is still keen to sign the £30m-rated defender on a permanent deal.

Speaking after Palace’s final-day defeat to Manchester United on Sunday, Eagles striker Benteke told the Evening Standard: “I’ve spoken to him [Sakho] and asked him to stay.

“It is a good team. Obviously with him we can achieve some good things. It is up to him and the chairman.

“I just said to stay because he is enjoying life in London. And also for his daughter, they can live in a nice city like London and it is not far from Paris. I know it is not going to be easy but anything can happen.”
